Rains in Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Madikeri, Mangaluru to continue

Pre-Monsoon rains have picked up pace over the South Peninsular India. In fact, states of Kerala, Karnataka have been witnessing good rains. The last 24 hours were also a rainy affair for parts of both of these states.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Kochi recorded good rains to the tune of 28.8 mm, followed by Gadag 4.5 mm, Honnavar 2.0 mm, Kalburgi 18.4 mm, Mandya 6.8 mm, Vijaya Pura 5.8 mm, Alappuzha 2.8 mm, Kottayam 9.2 mm, Punalur 5.2 mm and Thiruvananthapuram 1.8 mm.

Currently, the cyclonic circulation lies over Rayalaseema and adjoining parts of South Interior Karnataka. Not only this, another cyclonic circulation is seen over Comorin and adjoining South Tamil Nadu Coast. A trough is also seen extending from this system to South Madhya Maharashtra across interior parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

As all these systems will be moving mainly westwards, therefore the coastal parts of Karnataka and Kerala will be affected in the form of light to moderate rain and thundershowers during the next 36-48 hours. Thereafter, the rain intensity is likely to decrease over both these areas.

Until then, the cities of Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod, Malappuram, Mangaluru, Shivamogga, Chikmagalur, Madikeri, Wayanad, Kochi, Alappuzha, Thiruvananthapuram will witness rains.
