Rains in Kochi, Kanyakumari, Thiruvananthapuram to continue

Kerala and Tamil Nadu have been recording scattered pre Monsoon rain and thundershower activity for the past many days. Similarly, during the past days also few districts of these states witnessed varied intensity of rains.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Kochi recorded rain to the tune of 65 mm, Alapuzha 26 mm, Atiramapattinam 20 mm, Nagapattinam 13 mm, Punalur 8 mm and Thiruvananthapuram 6 mm of rains.

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Comorin region and adjoining Indian Ocean. This weather system is likely to move in west direction slowly. In fact, an upper air trough is extending from this system to Konkan coast across Interior Tamil Nadu.

These weather systems are providing warm and moist winds over Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Henceforth, light to moderate rain and thundershower activity will continue at scattered places over Kerala and southern and western parts of Tamil Nadu.

Places such as Kanyakumari, Kodaikanal, Coonoor, Coimbatore, Madurai, Dharmapuri and Salem in Tamil Nadu are expected to record pre-Monsoon rain and thundershower activity.

Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Kochi, Kozhikode and Thrissur in Kerala are likely to observe rain and thundershower activity.

These rains are anticipated to continue for the next 24 to 36 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of rains would reduce. As of now, the weather will remain warm and humidity will prevail.

During that time, the day temperatures are likely to rise. While the night temperatures would slightly decrease.
