Cloudy weather in DelhiMonday too had started on a scorching note, till sudden dust storm around 3 pm changed the weather drastically over Delhi. The dust storm was followed by thundershowers that had covered most parts of Delhi by evening, leading to extremely pleasant weather.

Rains on Monday had not only ended the 12 day long dry spell but these showers also lasted for much longer span that had been missing in Delhi for quite a long time. In span of 24 hours, Palam Observatory in Delhi had recorded 10.6 mm of rain, while Safdarjung recorded 10.2 mm.

The day maximums which had already soared to 40.9°C by 2:30 pm, saw a massive drop of at least 14 degrees in couple of hours only. Around 5:30 pm, the temperatures had plunged to 27°C.

Not only this, high velocity winds of speed of 50 kmph to 60 kmph were also recorded over the national capital. In wake of this, several flights were diverted as the squally winds dropped the visibility from 4000 meters to mere 600 meters.

What can be more rejoicing for Delhiites that the rainy spell is likely to continue on Tuesday as well. However, it may not be as intense as on Monday.

According to Skymet Weather, the change in weather will keep the temperatures under check which are likely to settle on lower side for next 2-3 days. North India including Delhi had been reeling under heatwave conditions with scorching temperatures.

Several weather systems are impacting the weather over Delhi. Initially the cyclone that had formed over Bay of Bengal had changed the winds pattern to humid easterly winds.

Now, a fresh Western Disturbance is prevailing over Jammu and Kashmir, which has also induced a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and adjoining Punjab. All these factors combined together has resulted in rains over the national capital.
