The early days of the month of May were quite hot and dry for the city of Bengaluru. However, rain and thundershowers finally appeared over the garden city during the latter part of the month.
With these continuing rains, the Karnataka capital city has certainly surpassed its monthly average rainfall of 107.4 mm, well before its scheduled date. In the month of May, overall the cyber city has recorded 242.4 mm of rainfall. This means, that this year, Bengaluru has been able to observe more than twice the amount of rains.
During the last 24 hours as well, some light showers were recorded over Bengaluru. These weather conditions can be attributed to the presence of a trough that is extending from North Maharashtra Coast to Kerala. This system is further likely to get more marked.
Besides, southerly/southwesterly moist winds are also prevailing over the city, leading to development of clouds over the region.

Hence, light rain and thundershowers are expected over the cyber city and adjoining areas. Afternoon will remain humid with cloudy sky. This will continue for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, intensification in rain activity is anticipated during 48 to 72 hours. According to Skymet Weather, this weather activity will upsurge along the coast, while it will reduce in the interior parts.
These rains will also mark the onset of Monsoon over the city along with parts of Karnataka in the coming days.
