Gujarat has not been much fortunate to witness rains from almost a month. This is one reason the state has mainly remained rain-free since the beginning of June. However, a few good spells have shown up in parts of South and Central Gujarat during mid-June but it did no wonders in curtailing the mercury levels.

Moreover, Southwest Monsoon has failed to mark a timely onset over parts of Gujarat, though it had made an on-time arrival over South Gujarat on June 12. Since then, Monsoon has not made much progress over Gujarat. This is the reason that Rajkot and Amreli recorded few good showers.

A few light spells with isolated moderate rains have occurred over the parts of Gujarat in the last 24 hours as well. Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Bhavnagar recorded 20.8 mm of rains, Surat 5 mm, Veraval and Ahmedabad recorded 0.3 mm of rainy spells each.

The reason for these offshore trough as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to an offshore trough that has become active due to the active Monsoon surge along the West Coast. In the wake of this, rains are expected to increase gradually within the next 24 hours over parts of Gujarat. But Saurashtra and Kutch region may not witness many rains. However, by June 27, rain intensity will once again pick up the pace as a cyclonic circulation is likely to develop in the North Arabian Sea in another 48 hours and hence, good rains will occur over the region.

Furthermore, this weather system will also be responsible for bringing in Monsoon to cover a few more parts of the state.
