Chennai rains revive, more in offing

June 8, 2016 7:43 AM |

Rain in ChennaiRains and thundershowers continued to lash Chennai for the second consecutive day as well. After recording 30 mm of rain on Monday, the capital city recorded 4 mm of rain on Tuesday evening.

Thunderclouds had developed around late evening and rain started around 8 pm that continued till 4 am.

Further, weather conditions still remain favourable for the rain and thundershowers to continue over the city during the next 24 hours.

According to Skymet Weather, the wet spell can be attributed to the presence of two cyclonic circulations on either sides of Peninsular India. A circulation is marked in west-central Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Pradesh Coast and has been primarily responsible for the rains over Chennai.

While, another cyclonic circulation is prevailing in Arabian Sea off Coastal Karnataka. As per the weathermen, when two circulations exist in such a close proximity, they tend to complement each other.

Hence, both the systems have been strengthening the Monsoon surge over entire Peninsular India, pounding rains over several parts of the region.

Skymet Weather predicts that weather over Chennai will once again go dry as both the systems are likely to move in northerly direction during next 24-48 hours.
