While the absence of rains has been wreaking havoc over several parts, dried Latur has been the most affected. Each day, the situation in this city which lies in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra has only been experiencing severe drought conditions.
Rains from Latur have remained almost absent. For the past one month, no significant rainfall activity has taken place in the drought affected city. So much so that gallons of water had to be sent to Latur through train to provide some relief to the people residing in the area.
However, now, rain gods have provided some relief in the form of light showers during the past two days. While these rains may not have been able to suffice for the residents and will not be enough to solve the drought problem in Latur, marginal relief from intense heatwave conditions will surely bring a smile to the residents’ faces.
Skymet has several Automatic Weather Stations in the Maharashtra region, and it regularly monitors the occurrence of rains in the area. Take a look at the table of the 24-hour rainfall figures in areas of Latur recorded by Skymet’s AWS.
During the next 24 to 48 hours, light rain will continue over the Latur district. While the intensity will remain on the lower side, light rain will ring in hopes for relief in the coming days.
