Rains break the monotonous rising mercury trend in Punjab

After sweltering in above 40-degree maximums, some rains have finally blessed the northern states like Punjab. Though these rainy spells were light in nature, they did result in lowering the daytime temperatures by a few notches.

The temperatures that were settling between 40°C and 43°C in most parts of the state curtailed to settle in the range of 37°C to 39°C.  In fact, rains poured over a few districts of the so-called ‘land of five rivers’ yesterday as well.

Districts like Amritsar witnessed light rains of 4 mm, Anandpur Sahib 5.2 mm and Pathankot also observed light rainy spells of 2.4 mm in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday.

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, the reason for scattered rains in northern parts of Punjab is due to the moving Western Disturbance which has given rain in hills along with the foothills of Punjab.

However, another fresh Western Disturbance is seen over North Pakistan and an induced cyclonic circulation is seen over central Pakistan. A trough is also seen extending from this system towards West Uttar Pradesh.

Thus, isolated thunderstorm and thundershower activities at a few places along with the possibility of a dust storm at one or two places are likely to occur during the next 48 hours. At present, temperatures are settling near normal in most parts of the state.

These pre-Monsoon showers may further bring down the temperatures but it will be a short-term relief as after the weather activity, temperatures will rise and troll back to normal.

Skymet Weather further foresees the possibility of on and off showers that will keep lashing the state. But the intensity of rain will be lesser.
