Mumbai has been receiving rain and thundershower activities since the late evening hours today. Particularly a few northern suburbs of Mumbai are witnessing good thundershower activities of considerable intensity along with strong winds. Santa Cruz has also received light rains and thundershowers. A few parts of Madhya Maharashtra are also receiving rains.
These on and off rains and thundershower activities are likely to continue until next two to three hours over Mumbai. Thereafter, weather will start becoming clear.
These rains are being caused due to convective clouds. The reason for these rains can be traced back to the presence of a Cyclonic Circulation alongside the coast of South Maharashtra. Also, a Trough is extending up to South coastal Maharashtra. Both these systems seem to influence these rains.
Although the chances are quite less, tomorrow also, we expect short spells of rain and thundershower over Mumbai and suburbs.
Thereafter a gradual decrease in such activities will set in. However, isolated localized weather activities cannot be ruled out until the next few days. Rains will mainly affect during afternoon or evening hours.
As this is the post-Monsoon season, these types of activities are quite common during this time not only over Mumbai but many other parts of the country.
