After remaining rain free for almost a week, finally, some rains marched towards Kolkata thereby giving reasons to the residents of the state capital to step out and relish the weather. It was on June 1 when rains showed up in Kolkata and since then they have refrained from pouring over.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Kolkata witnessed light showers of 8 mm. Other districts of the state like Darjeeling and Cooch Behar during the similar time frame also recorded light spells of 3.2 mm and 0.6 mm. However, as of now the possibility of rains over Kolkata has lessened.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is seen over South Bihar and a trough is extending from Uttar Pradesh to Odisha across Jharkhand. As this system persist far from the ‘city of joy’, hence, not much significant weather is anticipated over the capital of West Bengal.

However, the possibility of isolated light rains cannot be ruled out. At present also, the weather condition over Kolkata is cloudy and rains have started showing up in parts of the city. Though these rains are foreseen for a short duration confined to smaller areas.

The other districts of the state like Purulia, Bankura and adjoining regions may also witness isolated rain activities for another 48 hours. However, regions of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal like Malda and Dinajpur may witness moderate rain with isolated heavy showers as well.

Skymet Weather further states that as southerly moist winds are also likely to prevail, the weather condition across Kolkata is expected to remain humid.
