The lower regions of the hills of North India have been gripped under on and off rainy weather since the month began. While the higher reaches of these hilly terrains have witnessed a good amount of snowfall.

The effect of the rains and snowfall across the region was so strong that it led to the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway causing the tourists to remain stranded for at least 48 hours. All these were due to the effect of the Western Disturbance which was over Jammu and Kashmir.

In the last 24 hours also, rain and snow lashed the northern hills of the country. On account of these rains and snow, both the maximum and minimum temperatures also plummeted and remained several notches below the normal.

Let’s have a look at the amount of rain and snow recorded in the hilly states of North India in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday:

However, now this Western Disturbance is moving eastwards. Hence, the rain and snow activities over Jammu and Kashmir including Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand is expected to reduce.

As per the weatherman, the month of March is not that rainy and snowy but due to back to back Western Disturbances affecting the Western Himalayan region, the hilly states of North India were saturated with rains and enveloped under layers of snow.
