Since last one week or so many parts of Rajasthan are observing dust storm and thundershower activities with isolated hailstorms. The reason for such a weather is the movement of successive Western Disturbances across Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. These systems are inducing consecutive Cyclonic Circulations over western and northwestern parts of Rajasthan. Moisture incursion is also continuing from the Arabian Sea due to Northwesterly winds.
We expect these rains and thundershower activities accompanied with isolated dust storm to continue till May 18. Thereafter the intensity will decrease but isolated dust storm might be observed on May 19 as well. By this time the Western Disturbances which were affecting the Western Himalayas for the last 8 to 10 days would clear, leading to dry weather conditions in the region. Moisture incursion from the Arabian sea will also stop due to change in wind direction from Southwesterly to Northwesterly.
The temperatures are running below normal over most parts of Rajasthan since the last few days, helping in the abatement of heat wave conditions.
However, May 19 onward the temperatures will start rising gradually and settle in the mid-40s in many parts of Rajasthan, leading to heat wave conditions over the state once again. After this, we do not expect any weather activity in Rajasthan for at least the next one week.
