Rains and chilly weather to continue over Vaishno Devi

It seems that wet spell over Hindu shrine of Vaishno Devi has refused to come to an end and so does the bone-chilling weather. According to Skymet Weather, rain and thundershowers of varying intensity will continue to mar the hilly region for rest of the January.

The hilly shrine has already been recording on and off rain and snowfall during the last 24 hours. Thanks to active passage of Western Disturbances across Jammu and Kashmir, giving heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of the region.

In wake of this, weather has gone extremely chilly, making it difficult for the thousands of devotees to carry on with the pilgrimage. People are advised to stray well covered with woolens, else they may ill.

Both the day and night temperatures are settling below normal. In fact, maximum temperatures over the region and nearby areas are settling below normal by 4-7 degrees, leading to severe cold day conditions.

On Monday, Katra recorded maximum temperature at 9.9°C, seven degrees below normal. Similarly, Jammu settled at 12.9°C, five degrees below normal.

However, weathermen predict that intensity of rain will decrease during the next 24 hours but on and off rain will continue. Now, this will be for brief period as intensity of rain will increase again another Western Disturbance will be affecting soon.

According to Skymet Weather, series of active Western Disturbances are likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir during the remaining days of the month. The situation may carry on in the initial week of February as well.
