During the last 24 hours, rains have once again picked up pace over Gujarat. A few major cities like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara and multiple other southern districts of the state have received good rains. While Amreli received 13 mm of rains, Ahmedabad 18 mm, Gandhinagar 33 mm, Naliya 8 mm and Veraval 9 mm.
At present, a Cyclonic Circulation which was prevailing over South Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining Konkan and Goa has moved over Northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining South Gujarat.
Therefore, we expect moderate showers to continue over Gujarat region and parts of Saurashtra until September 28 or 29. The affected districts will be Surat, Navsari, Bhavnagar, Valsad, Chotta Udaipur, Dang, Tapi, Panchmahal, Amreli and Vairaval. Scattered light rains with one or two moderate spells are also likely over Porbandar and Rajmahal.
Rains will however remain scanty over Kutch region in places such as Bhuj, Naliya, Dwarka, Okha, Jamnagar, Kandla, Mehsana, Patan, Idar, Sabarkantha and Banaskantha.
Although the rain intensity may decrease by September 29, isolated light rains will continue thereafter as well. We expect on and off rains to continue over Gujarat until the first week of October.
This year, Monsoon remained active over Gujarat during the entire Monsoon season. The three three months of July, August and September witnessed good rains. Both the regions of Gujarat as well Saurashtra are running rain excess as of now.
