Due to the prevalence of a fresh Western Disturbance, the weather has become cloudy to overcast over most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. Due to the persisting cloud cover, the minimum temperatures have increased over these areas by 2 to 3 degrees.
Isolated rain and thundershower activities have already commenced over parts of Punjab. In fact, multiple cities in Punjab such as Amritsar and Bhatinda saw rain and thundershower activities yesterday itself. During the last 24 hours, Amritsar saw 2 mm rains, Ludhiana saw 2 mm, while Sri Ganganagar recorded 3 mm rains.
Now, we expect rain and thundershower activities to commence over many parts of Punjab today. By tomorrow, the rain and thundershower activities will increase and cover most parts of Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
These on and off rain and thundershower activities will continue until January 8.
After the passage of the Western Disturbance, we expect the minimum temperatures of these places to start dropping and Cold Wave conditions may commence at isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi and NCR from January 9 onward. Day temperatures will also subside over these places from today itself.
In fact, Cold Day conditions are expected to be witnessed in parts of Punjab and Haryana today. By tomorrow, Cold Day conditions are expected over parts of Delhi and NCR as well. After January 9, the maximum temperatures may decrease gradually. Despite bright sunshine, cold winds will keep the day temperatures below normal.
