A short spell of rain and thundershower activity is being forecast for Punjab and Haryana towards late afternoon or evening today.
The reason for these rains is the presence of a Western Disturbance over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. This system has also induced a Cyclonic Circulation over Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan.
Yesterday, Punjab and Haryana saw an increase in the maximum temperature by two to three degree Celsius. We expect the temperature to remain above normal in both the states today as well.
But as the system is likely to move away faster making way for cool northerly winds, we expect a drop-in day and night temperature over these regions by at least 2-3 degrees.
A mainly clear sky and a windy day will be observed in Punjab and Haryana on March 31.

A fresh Western Disturbance which has approached Jammu and Kashmir will induce a Cyclonic Circulation over western parts of Rajasthan. A trough will extend from this Cyclonic Circulation up to western parts of Uttar Pradesh. In the wake of these weather systems, we expect isolated light rains to commence over Punjab by tonight.
By tomorrow morning we expect isolated rain and thundershower activities to commence over parts of Haryana as well. But this time, intensity of rain and thundershower will be subdued and only isolated pockets of these states will receive thundershower activities. Chances of hailstorm are ruled out as convective clouds will not be very prominent.
On March 31, we expect the intensity of rain to reduce over entire Haryana and Punjab while shifting its axis towards Uttar Pradesh. So, this episode of rain will be meagre. But as the weather conditions have been dry in Punjab and Haryana for the last few days, these rains will definitely come as a relief from rising temperatures. Maximums will subside by two to three degrees Celsius in parts of Punjab and Haryana.
