Presently, a trough is seen extending from the Low-Pressure Area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh up to South Tamil Nadu. Apart from this, a Cyclonic Circulation also persists over North Coastal Tamil Nadu and adjoining Andhra Pradesh.

In fact, wind discontinuity can also be marked over Coastal Karnataka to South Karnataka.

During the last 24 hours Andhra Pradesh witnessed light rainfall activities at isolated places over Tamil Nadu. These activities are likely to increase further as North-easterlies are strengthening. Scattered moderate rains are likely over Andhra Pradesh coast and Interior Tamil Nadu specially along the Nilgiri area.

The city of Chennai is also likely to receive light rain during the next 24 hours. Also, light scattered rain is likely over Telangana and South Karnataka. After 24 hours, these activities will gradually increase, and most parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and South Karnataka are likely to receive good rains. Telangana and a few parts of North Karnataka will also witness mainly light rains during this period.

The present situation over these states indicates that the setup of Northeast Monsoon is close over the area. Next 48 hours are likely to bring rain over the entire South India.
