During the last 24 to 48 hours, light to moderate rains and thundershowers occurred at many places in Odisha. While Keonjhargarh recorded 22 mm rains, Sambalpur 4 mm, Angul 10 mm, Cuttack 9 mm, Chandbali 6 mm and Gopalpur received 6 mm rains. The sky conditions remained mainly cloudy to overcast over the entire state.
These weather conditions have occurred due to an upper air Trough extending of from Jharkhand to Marathwada. At present, the same system is weakening rapidly. However, due to the remnants of this system, moist winds are blowing from Bay of Bengal.
Thus, light rains and thundershowers are likely at scattered places over southern and eastern parts of Odisha during the next 12 to 18 hours. Places like Anugul, Balangir, Baleshwar, Baudh, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Debagarh, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghapur, Jajapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Kendujhar, Khordha, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangapur, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Puri, Rayagada, Sambalpur and Subarnapur are likely to see these rains.
Meanwhile, the Northwest parts of Odisha will remain mostly dry with partly cloudy sky conditions.
Thereafter, the weather conditions will improve. The day temperatures would start increasing from February 10, while night temperatures will decrease.
These rains will turn very beneficial for crops like paddy, mustard, wheat, etc.
