Ever since the month of March began, the holy Hindu shrineVaishno Devihas been witnessing intermittent rainfall. But in the last 3 days, rainfall over Vaishno Devi and Katra has gone more intense with marginal relief in between.
In the last 24 hours Katra observatory near Vaishno Devi has recorded 23 mm of rainfall. Along with Vaishno Devi, many other areas of the hilly region ofJammu and Kashmir is witnessing hefty sum of rain and snowfall.
This rainfall over the northern hills is happening due to the Western Disturbance over the region. Rain coupled with snowfall has become a common feature of the hilly region in the last 3-4 days. This weather condition is likely to continue for another 24 hours over the region including Vaishno Devi.
Starting from March 12, marginal improvement in weather activity can be expected. Only light rain is expected to happen till March 14.
Last weekend, the weather remained clear over the region which allowed more pilgrims to make a visit. But with this week, due to the turn of weather events pilgrims visiting this weekend are seeing the very worst of the weather.
The year started with hefty sum of rainfall over most parts of hilly region. This includes the holy shrine as well which remained under the grip of rain and snowfall. These weather activities were due to successive Western Disturbances affecting Western Himalayas.
