Rainfall surplus to increase in Telangana, Vidarbha

July 8, 2016 3:04 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Vidarbha has been receiving on and off rains since the beginning of July. While good rains occurred over Telangana in June, Monsoon rains have become subdued over the state during the month of July. Only light rain has occurred over the region for the past few days.

However, both Vidarbha and Telangana have observed excess rainfall amounts. While Vidarbha has been 13 percent surplus in terms of rain, Telangana has observed a rainfall surplus of 27 percent.

Moderate to heavy rain has occurred over some parts of Vidarbha during the last two days. Monsoon rains over Telangana remained subdued. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Gondia recorded a whopping 57.2 mm of rain, Wardha 51.2 mm, Nagpur 32.3 mm, Amravati 24.6 mm, and Yavatmal 8 mm.

The well-marked low-pressure area over East Madhya Pradesh will move in the west-southwest direction. Another cyclonic circulation which has formed over west-central Bay of Bengal off North Andhra coast will move towards the west. Both the systems are expected to merge near Vidarbha and adjoining South Madhya Pradesh.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely over Telangana, Vidarbha and adjoining during next 48 hours. After 48 hours, the weather system will move towards Southwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Gujarat and Rajasthan. Thus, rainfall intensity will decrease over these areas but light rain will continue. These rains will help in further increasing the monthly rainfall figures.
