Freezing winter conditions coupled with overcast skies are back in Delhi and North India. The Western Disturbance moving across Jammu and Kashmir played in tandem with the cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and adjoining areas to bring widespread rain and snowfall across North India. Rain is now on a receding note in the plains and will find clearance from Punjab and Haryana by Thursday afternoon.
Rain in Delhi
In a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday, Safdarjung Observatory in Delhi received 2.5 mm of rain. Very light intermittent rain will continue till tomorrow morning.
Rain in North India
In last 24 hours, Amritsar received 32.2 mm of rain, Chandigarh 0.8 mm, Jalandhar 8 mm and Ferozepur 2 mm of rain. In Haryana, Ambala received 1.6 mm of rain, Karnal 3.2 mm, Hisar 5.6 mm and Narnaul 8 mm of rain.
Temperatures in North India
This region went through an extended period of cold day conditions from the beginning of the month. North India hardly witnessed few days of relief when cold day conditions returned back with maximums dropping way below normal.
In Punjab, maximums are 8 to 10 degrees below normal average at present. On Thursday morning, Bhatinda recorded 11.1°C as maximum and 9.8°C as minimum temperature. The diurnal variation has narrowed considerably. Ambala, Karnal and Narnaul in Haryana are also witnessing extreme cold day conditions with temperatures settling 5 to 7 degrees below normal. In next 24 hours, temperatures will rise a little across plains of North India and settle around 16°C to 17°C.
