Northeast Monsoon has delayed its onset once again after two failed attempts. However, rainfall activity has been good enough for the state of Tamil Nadu sofa in October.
While the entire state has received excess rains, the rainfall activity has not been evenly distributed. There have been areas which have seen excess rainfall to the tune of 110% while large deficiency has also been observed in a few pockets.
Moreover, co-located districts have also seen a difference so far in October wherein Coimbatore saw 73% surplus rains, Tirupur recorded 45% surplus rainfall. However, Salem was 42% rain deficient along with Karur at - 47%. Normal rainfall was recorded over Erode at 2%.
Southern parts have seen good rains as compared to the northern parts wherein Toothukudi saw 77 percent surplus rains, Ramanathapuram recorded 52 percent surplus rains while Theni saw 64 percent rains.
Talking about northern parts of Tamil Nadu, Tiruvalur saw -45% rains, Kanchipuram saw -30% rainfall, Dharmapuri witnessed -44% rains and Vellore -38%. Capital city Chennai also saw deficient rains to the tune of -41%.
Rest of October will see mild rainfall activity as Northeast monsoon is not expected to make an onset until the first week of November. Good rainfall until then will be limited to south coastal parts of Tamil Nadu.
