12th South Asian Games : Rain in Guwahati, Shillong occasionally

South Asian Games 2016The 12th South Asian Games are scheduled to begin under tight security and wet weather conditions in Guwahati, Assam on February 6.

About 2,672 athletes from eight countries will compete in 228 events of 23 sports. These will include Men's and Women's Football matches, Boxing, Archery, Tennis and Kho-Kho. Countries to participate in this event, besides India, include Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

This quadrennial event was originally scheduled to take place in New Delhi in 2014. It will now be held in the two Northeast Indian cities of Guwahati and Shillong. The opening ceremony in Guwahati will take place with a gust of euphoria on February 5, while the opening ceremony in Shillong will take place on February 6.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will grace the inaugural ceremony of the event that will continue for 11 days.

Temperatures in Guwahati, Shillong

Weather will be clear in both the venues till February 8. With almost clear skies and bright sunshine, day temperatures in Guwahati will remain between 24°C and 26°C. Night will become pleasant with minimums between 11°C and 12°C.

Shillong will be much colder than Guwahati with maximum temperature settling between 15°C and 16°C. Morning will be cold with 6 to 7 degrees.

Rain in Guwahati, Shillong

Weather will turn cloudy and both the cities will receive light to moderate rain on February 9 and 10. However, weather over Shillong will clear off from 11th onwards. Weather will remain clear and bright from February 11 to 16.

In Guwahati, isolated rainfall activity will continue even after the 11th. Partly cloudy skies could bring patchy rains and the intensity will be light to very light. We do not expect these rains to hamper the events.
