Rainfall intensity to reduce over foothills of Bihar

July 19, 2016 3:55 PM |

Rainfall intensity to reduce over foothills of BiharThe state of Bihar has been receiving good rains for quite some time. Heavy rains have been lashing the foothills of the state. So much so that a few days ago, three people lost their lives in rain related incidents.

During the last 24 hours, good rainfall activity has been observed over the capital city, Patna as well. Many cities have witnessed rainfall in double digits.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Purnea received a whopping 38.4 mm followed by Patna where 31.2 mm of rainfall was recorded. Other areas to have received rains include Muzaffarpur 23.8 mm, Chapra 12 mm, Motihari 11 mm, Forbesganj 4.5 mm, Supaul 2.2 mm and Bhagalpur 0.8 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the axis of the Monsoon trough which is running along the foothills of Bihar. Now, during the next 24 hours, good rains are expected to continue over the state over both the foothills and the plains.

However, after 24 hours, rainfall intensity is expected to decrease over the foothills of Bihar as the eastern arm of the Monsoon trough is expected to shift southwards. However, due to this shift the plains of Bihar will continue to receive good rains after 24 hours. Thereafter, rainfall intensity will decrease over the entire state.
