Northeast and South India are the only pockets where some rainfall activity is being observed. The remaining parts of the country are sweltering under intense heat. The rainfall activity in northeast has been continuing for over a week but now it has reduced with only few places recording traces of rain.
In last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh has recorded 3 mm of rain, while the state capital Itanagar and Pasighat observed 0.4 mm and 1.2 mm of rain, respectively.
Assam, another state that observes good amounts of rain in the region has seen a decrease in rainfall activity in last 24 hours. For instance, Tezpur has recorded 2.2 mm of rain, while Guwahati and Dhubri have observed only 1 mm and 0.6 mm of rain, respectively. The Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura (NMMT) region, which also enjoys good amounts of rainfall has not received any rain for the last 2 days.
The weather in the region during this time is largely affected by cyclonic circulations in Bihar and its adjoining areas and by the anticyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal. Currently these systems have weakened and the anticyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal has moved more southwards due to which the moisture is not able to travel up to Northeast India.
According to skymet, the weather conditions in northeast are going to sustain for another two days before rain again picks up in the state from Sunday. However, we can observe light rain at some places in the NMMT region during this time.
