Odisha is all set to witness a good spell of rain and thundershower activities in the coming days. Southwest Monsoon did not give hefty showers over the state and thus the state witnessed rain deficiency of 9 percent.

Presently, some parts of the state have been witnessing light to moderate showers. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday, Koraput witnessed 23 mm of rain, Bhabanipatna 16 mm, Titlagarh 7 mm, Dhenkanal 5 mm, Sambalpur 4.4 mm, and Bhubaneswar 0.7 mm of rain. These showers are likely to continue for another 24 hours as well.
Thereafter, a significant increase in rain activity is likely over Odisha which will continue till October 9. During that time, moderate rain with isolated heavy showers are possible over the state. These rains will occur due to the cyclonic circulation which is expected to form over Odisha coast around October 7.

This weather system will gradually move towards the west and will give good showers over more parts of the state of Odisha. The day temperatures are also expected to subside during that time. Mornings and nights will remain comfortable and the sky will remain cloudy over the state. During the post Monsoon season, Odisha has witnessed surplus rainfall and is rain excess by 39 percent.
