The southwest Monsoon has been extremely distant from the southern state of Kerala. But January may just turn out to be rain friendly. Rains are finally showing up over the southern tip of India and at present most of Tamil Nadu are witnessing good rainfall.

A cyclonic circulation is seen over southwest Bay of Bengal. From this system a trough can be seen extending up to South India. Due to this many parts of the Tamil Nadu and Kerala are witnessing some rainfall activity.

In the last 24 hours stations that recorded traces of rainfall in Kerala are Alleppey, Cochin, Punalur and Thiruvananthapuram.

In the last 24 hours due to the trough of low isolated light rain has occurred over Kerala, while most of the rainfall was witnessed by the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu.

This rainfall activity is likely to take a break for 24 hours. Thereafter the rains will again pick up pace and engulf entire Kerala in the rainy spell.  This rain cover is very much likely to cover up most parts of south interior Karnataka and coastal Karnataka as well.

Around January 24 to 27, most parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and South Interior Karnataka will observe rain activity.
