During monsoon 2022, Bihar and Jharkhand remained rain deficient. Rain activities picked up during the second half of September, but these rains failed to bring down the rain deficiency.
Now the situation is going to change. Rain activities are expected to revive over East India including Bihar and Jharkhand soon. A Cyclonic circulation has formed over northeast and adjoining East Central Bay of Bengal. It will induce a low-pressure area which will move in the northwest direction towards Odisha and Jharkhand.
Rain activities will commence over eastern parts of Bihar and East Jharkhand from October 2nd and will cover the entire Bihar and Jharkhand by October 3rd.
Scattered light to moderate rain with a few heavier spells is possible over both states until October 9 0r 10. This may be the longest rain spell over Bihar and Jharkhand since the beginning of the Southwest Monsoon.
Although the revival of rainfall is very late and the damage to the crops has been already done. This upcoming rain spell will certainly boost the spirit of farmers as there will be sufficient moisture for upcoming Rabi crops.
There was a drought-like situation in Bihar and Jharkhand during the first three months of Monsoon. The two successive low-pressure areas which formed over the north Bay of Bengal during the latter part of September have given good rain over East India including Bihar and Jharkhand.
