The upper air cyclonic circulation over westcentral Bay of Bengal offnorth Coastal Andhra Pradesh persists. We can see another upper air cyclonic circulation lying over northeast Bay of Bengal and neighboring areas.
Thus, we can say that multiple weather systems are affecting weather conditions in East India. West Bengal is also gearing up for a good spell of rainfall.
During last 24 hours, Gangetic West Bengal has received light to moderate rains with isolated places receiving heavy rains. Now, a cyclonic circulation is over North Bay of Bengal. It will gradually move in a northwesterly direction and start affecting coastal parts of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.
Moderate to heavy rains are likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Scattered rains will continue over Gangetic West Bengal. On October 9 and 10, we expect rains to increase over most parts of West Bengal.
At present, the cumulative rainfall figure for the month of October is 84% less than normal. This spell of rainfall will help to mitigate the rainfall deficiency but the ongoing Durga Puja celebrations in the state will be affected due to these rains.
Durga Puja is celebrated with great pomp and show in West Bengal and in other parts of East India.
The streets of Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal are already flooded with devotees, for last minute shopping and other preparations for welcoming Goddess Durga.
