Rain to continue over Maharashtra

The prolonged dry spell over Maharashtra finally came to an end after good rains occurred over many areas of the state. Marathwada, which has been highly rain deficient received good rainfall in the last few days.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Harnai received a whopping 85 mm of rain followed by Mahabaleshwar where 65 mm rainfall was observed. Also, Ratnagiri recorded 50 mm rain, Colaba 48 mm, Nashik 30 mm, Alibag 62 mm, Mumbai 14 mm, and Pune 9.2 mm of rain.

This year, Monsoon ended with a deficiency of 40 percent in Marathwada. However, with good rainfall over the region in the last three days, rainfall figures have improved drastically. After the end of Monsoon, Marathwada is 13 percent deficient (which is considered to be normal).

Also, Konkan Goa is now observing a surplus of 31 percent, along with Madhya Maharashtra which had recorded a good surplus of 46 percent. Yesterday, Madhya Maharashtra recorded 14.7 mm of rain against its daily average of 5.7 mm. Marathwada received excess rain as well. In last 24 hours, Marathwada recorded 6.3 mm of rain against the average of 4.4 mm.

These rains will be highly beneficial for the farmers and will come in as a relief after a long dry spell. Rainfall will continue over Maharashtra for another few days. Image Credit: fitnhit.com
