The north-south trough currently extends from Sikkim to North Bay. Another trough stretches along the foothills, extending from Northwest Arunachal Pradesh to Assam, covering foothills across East Uttar Pradesh and North Bihar.
This has resulted in cloudy to partly cloudy weather conditions all along the foothills. Day temperature in the region has also taken a fall and rain has been witnessed at a few places.
The system is likely to extend further towards northern Himalaya region and is expected to merge with the Western Disturbance (WD) which is currently over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. As of now, the WD is moving eastward.
In the last 24 hours, scattered rain has been observed over a few places in the region. Gorakhpur recorded 3 mm of rain and Maharajganj received 72 mm rainfall.
Rain is likely to continue all along the foothills from Northwest Uttar Pradesh to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. It may extend further up to Himachal Pradesh in some time. The system is likely to keep parts of the region weather active in terms of rainfall for the next 48 to 72 hours.
