Rain to continue in Bengal, Bihar; likely to decrease in Northeast

As predicted by Skymet Meteorology Division in India few spells of thunderstorm, dust storm and rain under the influence of the Western Disturbance and its associated cyclonic circulation over Punjab and adjoining areas led to a marginal drop in the rising temperatures across North India.

Maximum temperatures, which touched 44°C in Punjab and Rajasthan on Thursday, showed a marginal drop but Ganganagar at 45.5°C and Churu at 45.4°C, still remained the hottest in the country.

The rising temperatures will get arrested for a while in Haryana. Maximum temperature dropped from 43°C on Thursday to 40.6°C in Karnal yesterday. Similarly in Hisar, maximum dropped from 45°C to 43.5°C

The feeble Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan will continue to bring light rain and thunderstorms in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, west Rajasthan and Delhi for the next 24 hours.

Weather in East India and Northeast

On Thursday, rain and thunderstorms occurred at several places in East and Northeast India. Jamshedpur in Jharkhand received 34 mm of rain while Krishnagar in West Bengal received 16.2 mm of rain. In Assam, Lumding received a whopping 202 mm of rain while Dibrugarh received 9.2 mm.

Light to good amounts of rain occurred today at few places in Chhattisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura. Rain accompanied by squally winds will continue in Bihar, Bengal and Jharkhand for the next 24 hours but the intensity of rain is expected to decrease in Northeast India.

Weather in South India

Meanwhile, Skymet satellite image shows the wind discontinuity extending from Bihar to Tamil Nadu across Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Marathwada and interior Karnataka persists.

Pre-monsoon showers will continue in South India but the intensity of rain will decrease south Odisha, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh and south Tamil Nadu.
