Rain to commence in Kashmir; to continue over Uttarakhand, Himachal

September 13, 2018 1:51 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are two hilly states which have been receiving continuous rains since the last many days. However, the intensity of these rains has been varying from time to time. In comparison to these two states, Jammu and Kashmir has received much less rainfall.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Dharamsala has recorded a whopping 42 mm of rainfall, Mandi saw 11 mm, Una 5 mm, Shimla 1 mm and Dehradun 1 mm.

However, now, the axis of Monsoon trough has shifted to the foothills of the Himalayas and a fresh Western Disturbance is over North Afghanistan and adjoining Pakistan.

Due to the influence of this system, rains are likely to increase over Jammu and Kashmir by tomorrow morning and few moderate to heavy spells of rains are possible. On and off rains are expected to continue over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand until September 15. Thereafter, rainfall will reduce over Jammu and Kashmir as the Western Disturbance will move away eastwards.

By September 17, rains will significantly reduce over Himachal Pradesh, but Uttarakhand will continue to see rains which means that weather won’t go dry over hills for some time. During the next two to three days, landslides and mudslides may occur over Jammu and Kashmir.
