Delhi and its adjoining areas such as Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad witnessed short spells of intense rain and thundershower activities accompanied with strong winds and lightning strike in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday.
During this period, Delhi’s Ridge Observatory recorded 5.2 mm of rain, followed by Safdarjung 2.4 mm, Aya Nagar 1.4 mm and Palam 0.6 mm.
And according to Skymet forecast, the weather is likely to remain the same today. Intermittent rain with thundershower is likely in Delhi and NCR during the afternoon and evening hours.
There's high probability of rain in some pockets of the national capital region tomorrow as well. However, by the evening of February 27, the weather conditions over Delhi and its adjoining areas will start clearing up.
These rains have been attributed to an induced cyclonic circulation over Northwest Rajasthan and a trough extending from this weather system up to Southwest Uttar Pradesh.
As the trough is running across the southern parts of Delhi, northeasterly winds are prevailing over the city and its nearby areas. Gradually this trough will move towards Delhi by late afternoon, and during the period rains will commence.
Some parts of the capital region may observe light hailstorm activity, due to the formation of convective clouds.
Pollution levels over Delhi-NCR are currently in moderate to satisfactory category. We expect the pollution levels to remain the same for another two to three days. After the weather clears up, strong winds will commence over the region, which will not allow pollution to build up in the city.
