Pune is all set to witness another spell of rain and thundershowers any time now. Rain bearing clouds are hovering the city at present and some places are already witnessing thunderstorms. Rains are likely to begin soon over Pune.
Intensity of rains will be light in nature and will be of shorter duration. This activity can be attributed to the feeble trough running along the Konkan & Goa coast, which has been infusing moisture over the city.

These pre-Monsoon activities are likely to bring marginal relief from the hot weather conditions. But this would momentary relief only as mercury will start rising once again tomorrow. True to their characteristics, these showers will occur during the late afternoon or evening hours and by then day temperatures have already peaked.
According to Skymet Weather, conditions will continue to be favourable for some more rain and thunderstorm during the next 24 hours as well.
So far, the city has only recorded 2.2 mm of rain against its monthly average rainfall of 40.6 mm. But since there still a week to go in the month, Pune might achieve the target, although chances are bleak.
For the last few days, day maximums have been settling above the normal average temperatures. On Monday, day temperatures settled at 38.8 degree Celsius, which was three degrees above normal.
