The capital city was wrapped with a thick envelope of fog today morning. The horizontal visibility at Palam airport was reduced to zero in the wee hours and continued till 0800 hr. The Runway Visual Range (RVR) also dropped to just 100mtrs. Flight operations got impacted by a large number of cancellations and diversions. Rail and road traffic was also hit badly, slowing the speed and delaying the arrivals and departures. The visibility has since improved to 400 meters at 1000hr and RVR is still better at 600 meters. However, sky-obscured conditions continue and may last till late hours.
A western disturbance is marked over Afghanistan and adjoining parts as an upper air trough. An induced cyclonic circulation is coming up over Rajasthan and Punjab regions. The two weather systems will move in tandem across the mountains and plains of North India. The wind pattern has already changed to easterly in the lower levels. Under the combined influence of these two systems, the capital city of Delhi is likely to have rain and thundershowers activity, tomorrow.
There was a marginal rise in the minimum temperature today. Base station at Safdarjung recorded low of 6°C, as against 4.8°C of yesterday. This will further rise and may go beyond 10°C on Sunday morning. Before that, city and suburbs are likely to have scattered rain and thundershowers, tomorrow. The weather activity will commence in the evening and go on till late night. Cloudy sky will precede the sprinkle and lead to cold day conditions.
The rain is likely to cease by Sunday morning and weather conditions will become better during noon hours. As it usually happens, the passage of the system is followed by cold winds and dense fog. Monday and Tuesday become vulnerable to dense fog and decline in morning temperatures. The dip in the morning temperatures will continue till next Friday.
