Rain thundershowers and hailstorm lash North Indian Plains

February 26, 2022 11:20 AM |

An active Western disturbance is over Western Himalayas and has given fairly widespread rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Ladakh and scattered rainfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and some parts of West Uttar Pradesh witnessed rain and thunder showers with isolated hailstorm.

Month of February is not considered as rainy. However, scattered rain or thunderstorm is not very uncommon. February rains are considered as winter rains, which usually occur due to the impact of a Western Disturbance induced cyclonic circulation over North India.

We are now in the transition phase from winters to pre-monsoon. Temperatures will start increasing by the second week of March and the transition from winter to pre-monsoon will be completed by second week of March.

Dust storm and thunderstorm are expected to commence by third week of March over Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan. This is the period when Maximum temperatures starts inching towards higher thirties or lower forties.
