After reeling under dry weather conditions for quite some time now, rains have finally made an appearance over the state of Maharashtra. In fact, since the last two days, many parts of Vidarbha have been recording light to moderate rains with a few heavy spells and thundershower activities. Moreover, some places have also been lashed with heavy hailstorm activities. Meanwhile, these unseasonal rains have resulted in heavy crop damage. In fact, crops such as Wheat, Bengal Gram, Jowar, Orange, Grapes, Papaya, Onion and several others are at stake because of these activities.

Similar trend has been noticed in the last 24 hours too. If we talk area wise, then Chandrapur has topped in terms of very heavy thundershower and hailstorm activities being reported during last 24 hours. Here, 73 mm of rainfall has been recorded, while Gondia has recorded 10.7 mm of rainfall during last 24 hours.

Talking about weather system, a Trough is seen extending from Chhattisgarh till Karnataka region across Vidarbha. This Trough is expected to move gradually in east directions thereby decreasing rain intensity over Vidarbha region. However, places located on eastern side of this region such as Chandrapur, Brahmapuri, Gondia and Yeotmal may continue to get scattered light to moderate rain and thundershower activities.

Further, there are also bright chances of hailstorm in these areas during next 24 hours. Thereafter, rain intensity will keep on decreasing continuously and we expect weather to clear up by January 27 evening onward and completely dry weather to set in by the night hours. During this time, the Trough will also reach over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana thereby giving activities there and vacating Maharashtra entirely.
