Rain, thunder, and lightning strikes are possible over East India

The weather in East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and coastal Odisha is very hot and uneasy. Conditions are expected to continue until May 23rd.

Thereafter, an east-west trough will be extending from North West India to West Bengal across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Parts of Bihar East Jharkhand and West Bengal may start experiencing rain and thundershowers with lightning strikes from May 24th. These weather activities are expected to continue over many parts of Bihar and West Bengal until May 28. The intensity of rain and thundershowers will be comparatively less over East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Odisha.

Kal Baisakhi or norwesters are common over the eastern parts of the country during the second half of May and the initial period of June. Strong gale-force winds associated with rain and lightning strikes are also common. These weather activities are responsible for the loss of life and property. The lightning strike is one of the major natural calamities for east and northeast India.

We at Skymet want to alert the people of these States about upcoming heavy showers, strong winds, and lightning strikes. Temperature will subside leading to abatement of heatwave. Weather will start clearing up from May 29 and temperatures will once again start increasing.
