Rain subsides in North India, to continue in the East

Rain has subsided from Delhi/NCR, northwest plains and adjoining parts of Central India. The rain belt is gradually shifting eastward. Today, rain will continue in east Punjab, west Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and parts of Odisha. By tomorrow rain in East India will abate but parts of West Bengal and Northeast India will still receive some rain. The cyclonic circulation over southeast Delhi has shifted to east Uttar Pradesh and will reach Bihar by tomorrow as a trough of low pressure area.

By 17^th evening, rain will ease out from West Bengal and only Northeast India will receive light rain. The present system will move away from the country and cease to bring any rain by the 18^th of February. For the next 24 hours, maximums in East India will be below normal due to widespread rain and clouds.

Temperatures in India

Minimum temperature will gradually drop by a couple of degrees in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh during the next 48 hours. On the other hand, maximums will rise to settle between 19°C to 21°C. Cold northerly to north westerly winds blowing from Rajasthan to Uttar Pradesh, covering Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh will not allow the day temperatures to rise significantly. The temperature will gradually rise and is likely to reach 25°C in the northern plains in the next 3 to 4 days.

Rayalaseema region continues to be the hottest place in the country with Kozhikode and Madurai recording 34.7°C and 34.6°C, respectively. Day temperatures in some parts of Andhra Pradesh may fall marginally due a cloud cover and rain.
