The northern hills of India i.e. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand recorded isolated rain and snowfall activity in the higher reaches during the last 24 hours.
Yesterday, isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir even recorded above normal maximum temperatures. Meanwhile, minimums over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh were marginally below normal.
Thus, in the absence of any significant weather system, all the three hilly states of North India are currently experiencing almost dry weather conditions except few eastern parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
We expect similar weather conditions to occur today as well. The sky conditions will remain sunny during the day but towards the later part, in the wake of an approaching fresh Western Disturbance, clouding will start increasing over the entire region.
As the approaching Western Disturbance is likely to be feeble in nature, we do not expect the occurrence of major weather activities. Therefore, by today evening light rain and snow will commence over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.
On March 7 and 8, we expect scattered light rain and snow to occur over most pats of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh along with some parts of Uttarakhand. After 48 hours, rains will once again calm down for a short period.
Currently the chances of Avalanches are very high over the hills of North India, as with such continuous spells of weather activities, a lot of snow has accumulated in all the three hilly states.
