Tamil Nadu is the rain shadow region which does not see good showers during the Southwest Monsoon. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Dharmapuri recorded 51 mm, Coimbatore 42 mm, Salem 23 mm. For the city of Coimbatore, the monthly normal rains are at 36.1 mm.
Normally, for the state as such, Southwest Monsoon is not rainy but Northeast Monsoon gives enough rains. Particularly, for the Niligiri region along the Western Ghats. Dividing region is Kerala region which gets heavy rains.
For Tamil Nadu in the current scenario, the off shore trough from North Tamil Nadu to South Tamil Nadu. A Cyclonic Circulation may come up off and along Tamil Nadu coast. Thus, rains may continue and heavy around places. Around August 30 and 31, rains are likely. The interiors are expected to see more rains as compared to the coastline. Tamil Nadu is currently in the excess category. Till 25 August, Tamil Nadu is surplus at 67 percent.
