The prolonged dry spell over Maharashtra has finally come to an end as light rains have begun to lash the Vidarbha region of the state. In fact, isolated rainfall activity has also been observed over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and a few areas of Coastal Maharashtra.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Aurangabad received a whopping 40 mm of rain, followed by Nagpur where 20.1 mm rainfall was observed. Other areas to have received rains include Amravati 14.8 mm, Parbhani 16.2 mm, Buldhana 15 mm, Chandrapur 14.2 mm, Jalgaon 11 mm, Yeotmal 9.2 mm, and Mumbai 1.9 mm.
Now, Southwest Monsoon has made its onset over some parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Ranchi and a few more parts. Conditions are favourable for further advancement of Monsoon over more parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada and Konkan and Goa during next 48 hours.
The cyclonic circulation in the west-central Bay of Bengal has moved westwards and is currently stationed over Odisha and adjoining Bay of Bengal. This system has also activated the off shore trough over the West Coast. The combined effects of these weather features will result in good showers over entire Maharashtra in the coming days.
During the next 24 to 48 hours, Vidarbha and Marathwada will receive heavy to very heavy rains. Light to moderate rain will also be observed over Madhya Maharashtra in the coming days. In fact, rains in Coastal Maharashtra will also pick up pace around June 20. Thus, cities including Mumbai and Pune will also witness good showers during this period.
