Rain over Rewa, Satna, Seoni, Raipur, Durg to continue

March 9, 2018 1:56 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Rain over the central belt of the country that includes states like Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have remained far and few this season. While a few districts of Madhya Pradesh have still recorded some showers with brief breaks, Chhattisgarh has mainly remained arid with just one or two instances of isolated rain.

However, the last 24 hours were rainy for both Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and both the states saw some light to very light rains.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Thursday, Sagar, Seoni, and Jabalpur recorded 1 mm of rains each. Indore, Ujjain, Chhindwara, Mana, Ambikapur, Durg, and Raipur witnessed some rainy traces.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains were due to the development of a confluence zone over the region. This confluence zone is now seen extending from South Madhya Pradesh to Chhattisgarh. In the wake of this, light rains are expected to continue over parts of East Madhya Pradesh as well as over Chhattisgarh for at least another 24 hours.

In general, the intensity and spread of rainfall over both the regions peak during the pre-Monsoon season that begins in the month of March and is utmost in May. As the region has entered the pre-Monsoon phase, the rainfall activities over both the regions would start increasing.

It is during this month that the temperatures start rising significantly over Central India, particularly over Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Such high temperatures result in instability of atmosphere thereby leading to localized thunderstorm and thundershowers. Very heavy showers are not predicted during this time.

However, to be called as pre-Monsoon showers, these rains must fulfill other essential criteria like being accompanied with strong winds. As this is not the scenario at present, these rain and thundershowers cannot be called pre-Monsson rains.

Probability of hailstorm is also high during this time of the year. However, as this weather system is not very intense, therefore, chances of hailstorm are ruled out and hence, crop damage would not be a possibility.
