Rain over Kerala and coastal Karnataka will take backseat now

Coastal Karnataka and Kerala have been receiving moderate to heavy showers for the last 2 to 3 days. The reason for these rains can be attributed to the two weather systems. A cyclonic circulation was over the southwest Bay of Bengal near the Tamil Nadu coast at around 5.8 Km above mean Sea level and a depression was over the east Central Arabian Sea near the South Konkan coast.

Both weather systems are now losing their intensity. The depression has weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area, this will further degenerate into a low-pressure area and subsequently into a cyclonic circulation over South Madhya Maharashtra. On the other hand, the cyclonic circulation off the Tamil Nadu coast will also fade away gradually.

We expect rain activities to reduce significantly over Kerala and Karnataka after 24 hours. We have not witnessed frequent heavy rain spells over Kerala during this monsoon season. Kerala remained rain-deficient. This may be the last intense spell over Kerala. Now the rain activities over Kerala will remain subdued. Scattered light rain with one or two moderate spells is possible. Most of Karnataka will also witness subdued activities now.
