Rain outlook across the Country

Rain in IndiaMarch began on a rainy note and most parts of the country continued to witness successive spells of rain for the first 3 weeks.

There was a lull for almost 10 days after the 'ides' of March. However, multiple weather systems once again brought widespread rain across the country over the past 2 days.

The last 24 hours witnessed light but widespread rain in all the three hilly states of North India, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, parts of Maharashtra and peninsular India. However, the extremely hot pocket of Andhra Pradesh remained dry.

Rain in Jammu & Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir has broken all records this March. Over the past 2 days, Srinagar received 95 mm of rain. Till now the beautiful hill station has recorded 237.5 mm of rain, leaving the monthly average of 115 mm far behind. Katra, Jammu, Batote and other places in the state have also surpassed their normal average rainfall.

In last 24 hours, Srinagar received 50.6 mm of rain, Jammu 98 mm and Katra 139 mm of rain. Click here to know more about Jammu and Kashmir rains.

Rain in Delhi and Northern Plains

On Sunday, Amritsar received 4 mm of rain, Chandigarh 11.2 mm of rain, Patiala 6 mm and Hisar 7 mm. In west Uttar Pradesh, Bareilly received 9 mm of rain.  Palam Observatory in Delhi recorded 20.6 mm of rain in last 24 hours. Rain in India

In the western part of the country, Jaipur received just 1 mm of precipitation and Ahmedabad saw traces of rain. In Central India, Jabalpur recorded 2 mm, Pendra 6 mm, Nashik 13 mm, Pune 3 mm and Akola 1 mm of rain.

In the Peninsula, Mangalore saw 27 mm of pre-monsoon showers while Thiruvananthapuram and Karaikal received just traces of rain.

Rain Forecast

A little respite is now likely for North India and Central parts. The rain belt is shifting towards East and Northeast India. Therefore, widespread rain is the forecast for Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and the Northeastern states.
