This winters, northeastern states remained dry for a longer period with some few light showers during the initial days of February. Most parts of the region were reeling under the rainfall deficiency by more than 80%.
According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is marked over Assam and adjoining parts of Meghalaya. This system is supported by an upper air trough which is seen extending over Tibet region.
In wake of this weather system, clouding is likely to prevail with some scattered light rain and thundershowers in parts of northeastern states.
Particularly the higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh will witness these scattered rains. These showers are likely to gradually intensify during the next 24 hours, covering the entire state of Arunachal Pradesh and East Assam.
Maximum temperatures which are presently settling above normal by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius are likely to fall due to the clouding and rainy spells over the area.
Though Arunachal Pradesh and Assam are predicted to witness rain and thundershowers, these rains are still not expected to bring many changes in the prevailing rainfall deficiency over the ‘seven sisters’ states’. Therefore, we can say that the rainfall deficiency will continue to prevail over the region.
