Hundreds of tourists tapping to the beats of the enthralling folk dancers, amid authentic fragrances and the rustic flavors of the multicultural India, is what Surajkund Mela is all about. This year the 28th Surajkund International Crafts Mela, with Goa as its theme state, was inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on 1st February. Here’s how the weather in Delhi and NCR this week could play an important role in the celebrations during the Surajkund Mela:
The fifteen day long cultural affair started on a cold note in Faridabad as the morning was foggy and the day’s maximum in most major cities of Haryana settled between 17⁰C to 18⁰C. But, a bright winter sun and rise in the maximums on Sunday attracted many tourists on the second day of the festival. However, the next few days could be slightly troublesome for traders, craftsmen and tourists due to chances of rain.
“According to Skymet, the weather models are indicating rainy days ahead. Rain could commence from 5th February onwards and continue till the 7th or even till the 8th of February. The first day will observe very light rain with the intensity increasing from the second day. Rain could be the heaviest on the 7th of February and disappear from 8th onwards. So that is approximately four days of rainy weather in Delhi and NCR”, says a senior meteorologist.
“Places with thick cloud cover could witness ‘cold day conditions’. The sun will be in hiding and cold northwesterly winds will add to the chill. Needless to say, this change in weather in the northern plains is because of rain/snow in the Kashmir Valley”, added the meteorologist.
While rain in Delhi and NCR during the Surajkund Mela may spoil the plans of some, there are others who are awaiting the change in the weather. “I love the winter and I am already sad that it will soon come to an end. With news of rain, the weather could again turn cold. This is the best time to shop and munch on pakodas with some hot chai. Also looking forward to having hot gulabjamuns and steaming hot galebis at the fair”, says Payel Chatterjee, a media person from Noida.
Though the weekend is expected to be dry but fog could make a comeback as rain would leave enough moisture in the air for fog to settle, and sometimes last till late morning. As of now it will be too early to predict, weather fog will bother people visiting the Surajkund Mela or not.
