Bengaluru has been lucky enough to receive rains during the entire month of May. In fact, since April 15, the capital of Karnataka has been receiving rain and thundershower activities with an occasional gap of two to three days.
The last 48 hours were also rainy for the aptly called ‘Silicon City’. Light traces of rainy spells have occurred on both May 6 and May 7. Although the nearby regions of the district have witnessed good rains in the last 24 hours.
Within the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Belgaum recorded 20 mm of rains, Chintamani 13 mm, Koppal 11.6 mm, Hassan 9.2 mm and Mysore witnessed 7 mm of showers.
Though these occasional showers also do not seem to throw much impact on the average monthly rainfall of the city that stands at 107.4 mm as the city till date has just recorded mere spells of 1.6 mm.
As per Skymet Weather, a trough is extending from central Uttar Pradesh to Interior Karnataka across Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha in Maharashtra. Therefore, rain and thundershowers which have drenched parts of Karnataka are expected to continue over Bengaluru until May 10.
Moreover, the intensity of rain will be light on May 9 and is likely to increase on May 10. However, one or two moderate spells in the city are still anticipated.
As per their characteristics, these pre-Monsoon showers generally occur during the late afternoon or evening hours and by then the maximums have already peaked. Hence, these rains will not have much impact on the temperature profile. Rather, they would stay marginally above the normal.
At present also the daytime high in Bengaluru are staying above normal. Though, in the wake of rain along with cool winds during late afternoon or evening, some relief is anticipated.
After these rainy episodes, the weather will once again go on to become dry for next two to three days.
