Rain likely to increase over east; showers continue in Gujarat, Rajasthan

September 26, 2013 2:22 PM |

A trough from the current weather system over Gujarat to Delhi and then southeastwards towards Gangetic West Bengal across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand is expected to form during the next two days. Due to this trough line, rain will continue to occur over north Gujarat, Rajasthan, northwest Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Rain may increase over Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal in coming few days. Kolkata may witness increase in intensity of rain in next 24 hours

The southern parts of this trough will experience moist southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea while the northern parts will witness easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal. Due to availability of moisture, all of these places will have rain and cloudy weather which will keep the temperatures below the average for a couple of days. So, the above average temperatures in east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal will now drop significantly.

Meanwhile, northeastern states will have to wait for another 48 hours for rain to pick up and temperatures to drop. The possible formation of a trough in northeast region in a day or two will start bringing rain as southwesterly winds will continue to give moisture

Rain in southern Peninsula will remain subdued as there is no weather system in the region. However due to southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea, rain could occur at one or two places here. Temperatures in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh will remain near normal due to partly cloudy sky and rain.

Weather in northwest plains will be pleasant as temperatures will not rise due to partly cloudy sky and chances of rain with thunder development. Hills will be warm as there is no Western Disturbance in the offing. Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and upper parts of Uttarakhand will witness above normal temperatures.
